Cisco VoIP Call Recording Solution

The flexible CallRex Call Recording™ software solution offers two recording methods to record and monitor telephone calls on Cisco systems: packet sniffing via port mirroring or call recording via forked audio using the Built-in Bridge on selected Cisco IP phones. CallRex Call Recording software is customizable, allowing companies to tailor their call recording installation-whether using forked audio or packet sniffing-to suit their business and network needs.

Recording through Forked Audio

Call recording can be achieved using the Built-in Bridge (BIB) option on selected Cisco IP phones. If a telephone is provisioned in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM) to be automatically recorded and the IP-enabled phone is set-up, UCM instructs the telephone to fork or duplicate its audio stream to the CallRex Call Recording server. Port mirroring and additional network hardware is not required using forked audio.

Packet Sniffing

Call recording via packet sniffing with CallRex Call Recording software utilizes Cisco's Skinny protocol. Port mirroring is set-up at the data switch that is connected to the IP PBX. The CallRex Call Recording system passively sniffs the network traffic and captures the appropriate audio files for recordings. Every VoIP packet that goes to and from the IP PBX is copies to the CallRex Server, which then reassembles the packets into a recorded call and compresses and stores the recorded call for later retrieval.

Call recording and computer monitoring with CallRex software on Cisco systems includes support for:

  • Full-time (100%), triggered, or on-demand call recording,
  • Extension mobility,
  • No limit to the number of simultaneous call recordings,
  • Voice recording files at 97 KB per minute,
  • Screen recording files at 200 KB per minute,
  • Easy storage, search, and retrieval through the CallRex software user interface,
  • Playback of recordings using any standard desktop media application.
